An individual being accidentally locked in a refrigerated environment is a serious hazard that can lead to fatal accidents, particularly in low temperature stores. A number of different measures to control the risk are proposed by the HSE including the use of trapped person alarm systems.

Alarm Operation
A trapped employee pulls the red alarm cable or pushes the button. This activates the red-flashing alarm siren on the external box. The red light on the internal box lights up, reassuring the trapped person that the alarm has been activated outside the cold room.
After the alarm has been raised and appropriate action taken to free the individual, the whole alarm system can be switched off and reset simply by pressing the ‘reset’ button on the external box.
